I kind of wrecked my brain trying to think of activities that can be done on Mother’s Day while, you know, being safe. Usually, we would have things like going to the movies, bowling, comedy clubs, etc. You know, the typical crowded indoor things. And there’s nothing wrong with doing these things now, as long as they are maintaining social distancing and keeping the touching to yourself, etc. But at the same time, I think the majority would like to keep their distance and/or lean more towards outdoor activities.
Anyway.
I think I came up with 4 activities that are pretty good in the sense that you keep to yourselves (group) and won’t have to interact with others (strangers). Hahahaha, that sounds fun huh.
Ok, so aside from giving you the ideas, I will also give you a list of things you may need to accomplish those activities.
1. Outdoor Movie Night
This is actually the best idea ever and I don’t know why we don’t do it more often. You get to watch a movie, you’re outdoors, you get to eat whatever snacks you want, and you don’t have to talk to people. Hahaha, that is at least while the movie’s playing!
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Projector
- Casting device (Chromecast, Roku, Firestick, or laptop. Tablet & phone can be connected with a special cable that may or not may be included with your projector)
- Big wall
- Tape
- Comfy Outdoor Chairs or Picnic Blanket
- Snacks & drinks
2. Play Tourist
Go to a place in your city/town where you’ve never been before. Try going to the less popular places where the crowd would presumably be at a minimum. This is a great opportunity to get Mom in all the pictures because oftentimes, she’s the photographer and rarely makes it into the pictures.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Camera (phone, point and shoot, DSLR, or instant)
- Destination
- Fun, comfy outfit
- Water
- Food (if your destination has picnic areas)
3. Beach Trip
This could technically fall under playing tourist, but for some, the beach is also a road trip! Try visiting a lesser-known/popular beach. If that’s not possible, believe me, there’s plenty of beach to go around. Common sense people will camp away from other people. Just keep your distance. In our experience, whenever we go to the beach, it’s not as crowded. Maybe we’ve lucked out? I don’t know, but I think if you know a certain beach will be packed, it’ll probably be better to skip this one.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Beach wagon
- Towels
- Chairs
- Umbrella
- Sand toys
- Blanket
- Camera (phone, point and shoot, DSLR, instant, or waterproof)
- Sunscreen
- Snacks & drinks
4. Paint Party
You don’t have to be good at drawing to have a paint party! Ever hear of abstract art? Haha. This one is a simple one, but it is super fun!
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Canvases (one for each person)
- Easels
- Acrylic paint
- Paintbrushes
- Paint trays or paper plates
- Painting aprons or old t-shirts
- Snacks & drinks
- A Youtube tutorial, art sample to try to recreate, or freestyle!
So there ya go! Plenty of options for you and maybe you need more, I don’t know. Haha. So here are some of our past suggestions, but please be sure to practice safety measures if going to a crowded place; Mother’s Day: Things To Do & 5 Things To Do On Mother’s Day!
