7 Things to do while you wait for Halloween
Hey there! I know, I’M ALIVE….
You know me, I always have to say something around Halloween season. Why? Because it’s not only the best but also my absolute favorite!
In the past few days, I kept thinking, about how can I distract myself from counting down the days until Halloween, and then it hit me.
I had all these ideas running through my head and figured I’d share them with you because I cannot possibly be the only one in this predicament.
So without dragging this thing any longer, here are the 7 things I will be doing in this difficult downtime. 😉
#1 – Free Online Games
You cannot go wrong with this one. Whenever I have a few minutes where I do not know what to do or if I feel overwhelmed, playing games can be really relaxing when you’re feeling stuck or bored. I recently found this website, solitaire.org, which has many games to choose from, not just solitaire.
My favorites are, of course, Solitaire, Sudoku, and Word Search.
And if you’d like to venture to games you’ve never played before, simply scroll down the page of the chosen game and it has all sorts of information about the game such as how to play and even a brief history.
#2 – DIY Halloween Decorations
This is one of my favorite things to do. I love to DIY anything I possibly can and Halloween decorations are an easy win for me. I have a few DIYs that I’ve posted here in the past and some I haven’t such as this scarecrow.
If you need some ideas to jump-start your Halloween DIY journey, check out some of these!
#3 – Plan Next Year’s Summer Vacation
This past summer was jam-packed with travel and activities because I actually sat down last year and planned things to do from June to September! Yep. A whole season and a half before we even went anywhere. Do you know why? Because in years past, I waited til the last minute and could not find anything that was open (capacity-wise) or that wasn’t outrageously expensive.
In total, we visited 5 different beaches and went for round 2 at one of them! Planning ahead really makes things easier, and cheaper, and it’s something for you to look forward to in the following year!
#4 – Start A New Hobby
If you don’t already have a hobby, why not start one? Or if you have hobbies, why not adopt a new one?
I have a few hobbies because I recently learned that if you stick with one for too long, you’ll get burnt out. Some of my hobbies are this very blog, DIY home improvements, handmade products for my Etsy store, and I also have a Poshmark closet that sadly has been neglected for a while 😬. This cup is one of my favorite products!
Anyways, the point I’m trying to make is that it doesn’t have to be a ‘conventional’ hobby to be a hobby as long as you enjoy doing it!
#5 – Plan Outdoor Activities For Cooler Weather
Most places (in the US, anyway) don’t get cooler weather until we enter mid-September to mid-October and the exception of the desert which can be until December. I don’t plan these out too far because we don’t really know when it’s going to be cool enough to be outside for long periods of time. (Talk about summer’s humidity! 😧) So far we’ve been thinking about going to the apple orchard for the very first time, but are waiting for temperatures to drop just a tad.
We also love going to fall fairs, pumpkin patches, and bbq’ing outside after the mosquitos have disappeared.
#6 – Start Watching Horror Movies
You know what really puts me in the Halloween spirit? Horror movies! I love horror movies and I (weirdly) always feel warm and fuzzy inside when I watch scary movies. Even if it’s not a jump-scare, a good thriller can make me feel at home. Here’s a list of movies that are worth the watch!
And if horror movies aren’t your thing, you can always watch action-horror (which is usually of the zombie variety) or even drama. Yes, drama movies can be scary because some of that stuff out there is very real and scary! 😲
#7 – Brainstorm Christmas Gift Ideas
While some stores already have Christmas-related items out there, some think it’s too early, but the reality is once October is here, it’ll fly by and then Thanksgiving will be around the corner and if you’re like me, you like to be prepared for Black Friday.
Even if you don’t, once Thanksgiving has passed, the rest of the days leading up to Christmas can be chaotic. So why not take some time to think about what your Christmas shopping list is going to look like? What is there to lose? If anything, you’ll gain precious shopping time that some people take for granted and when they want something specific it has already sold out.
In conclusion, there are plenty of things to do to keep yourself busy and not fixated on how many days til Halloween… but if you’re curious, here’s the countdown! 😉
What will you be doing to pass the time until Halloween is here? Let me know in the comments below!
These are great ideas. Halloween is not a favorite, but I do love fall and all the things to do.
