DIY: Halloween Cupcakes
No tricks, just treats!
This year I decided to make some simple cupcake treats for our new neighbors!
Everything was purchased at Walmart so it was relatively inexpensive.
Shopping List:
- Duncan Hines Signature Red Velvet Cake Mix
- Betty Crocker Rich and Creamy Cream Cheese Frosting
- Betty Crocker Rich and Creamy Milk Chocolate Frosting
- Great Value Halloween Sprinkles Mix
- Great Value Black Sparkling Gel
- Great Value Red Sparkling Gel
- Great Value Baking Cups
- Strawberries
- Minute Maid Orange Juice
- Treat Boxes with Window
Step 1: I simply followed the instructions on the box for cupcakes and voila, base done!
Step 2: I then intended to make some strawberry compote for delicious blood decor. However, because I only used strawberries, the compote did not turn out very red. Instead, it looked more like smashed brains or guts. I used this easy compote recipe very loosely. It only takes 20 minutes and a couple ingredients that you might already have in your fridge!
*All I used was strawberries and orange juice and it came out perfectly sweet, no sugar added.
Step 3: Next, I took a couple sandwich ziplock bags and cut a corner to insert decorative tip. It didnβt work out so well on the first application, so I opted out of using the tips. I didnβt really have a plan on how I would decorate, so I just did random swooping motions.
Step 4: After the cupcakes had been frosted, I did random drawings and sprinkled randomly on others.
This is the end result!
Some came out cute and some not so much, but I had fun doing it!
